Halloway massacre : ウィキペディア英語版 | Halloway massacre The Halloway massacre occurred in August 1857 near the head of the Humboldt River and present day Wells, Nevada. A small wagon train of American settlers were headed to California when hostile native Americans, suspected of being Paiutes, attacked them.〔Michno, pg. 59〕 A man named Mr. Halloway led the group which consisted of only a few wagons and nine other people, including his family. Another wagon train followed behind the Halloway's though they were too far away to help when the natives attacked. It was dawn on the morning of August 13 when warriors quickly rode in on horseback and began killing the settlers with arrows and gunfire. Mr. Halloway was killed right away, Mrs. Halloway was scalped and their two-year-old daughter was killed when one of the warriors swung her by the heels into a wagon wheel. Three of the men in the party, two of whom were wounded, escaped and made it to the other wagon train and when it came up the natives scattered into the countyside, leaving behind Mrs. Halloway who survived, and six dead. The scalp of Mrs. Halloway was retrieved and reattached, she lived for several years more but eventually became insane.〔Michno, pg. 59〕 ==References==
